From the writings of Professor J. Dorian PhD (2008) A Daemon is not a new thing, in truth it is more ancient than any tomb in history known to man, but as humans we fear the unknown, we fear death. Daemons are beings of death, though tout history they have been hunted and destroyed, known as many beings and killed by many means. Vampire,Sucubi and Devil are among the bounty of legendary beasts they have inspired.
It is only in the last century or so, that man has sought them out for the sake of knowledge, to find them civilized and as Human as they were before to a certain extent. In 1922 Daemons were classed as a branch of humanity and given the same rights we were, for some this was a wondrous thing, to think of loved ones coming back, others saw it as an abomination, a cruel joke and an insult to humanity. This hate could easily be compared to simple racism, and to this day hate crimes against Daemons are seen as such: acts of racism.
The exact genetic creation of a Daemon itself is in fact unknown, but through the use of interviews and volunteer research, it can be assumed that a Daemon is created by an injustice at the moment of death. There are many theories as to how the chain reaction begins and what dictates an injustice: Some see it as an act of God, some as a kind of self-necromancy and some believe that the brain releases chemicals that stop the body from dieing completely and instead triggers the change.
The change from corpse to Daemon has been known to take up to two days, however, no records have shown the change taking a longer time than this. Very few have payed witness to this miraculous act of nature, but those who have find themselves disturbed by the sight. It can be safely assumed, that the body undergoes severe stress as the witnesses have described symptoms similar to an epileptic fit.
Once the change is complete, a Daemon often finds themselves physically different, with the appendages of an animal. Through extensive research into the supernatural a theory was concocted, and presented in the year 2002, that during the change, the soul or metaphysical remains of an animal may attach itself to the body, causing the appendages to appear. However, this particular change does not always happen, one out of every three Daemons will often be exactly as they had been alive, rendering the theory incomplete.
Daemons also need to drink blood in order to survive, without it they become weak and their heightened healing and immune system wavers. There have been instances were, without blood, a Daemon would die. This fact has quelled theories that they are immortal and forever young. Though the oldest a Daemon has lived has not yet been verified.
Recent studies on blood lust have shown that though a Daemon will drink any blood if it is necessary to survive, they gain more from feeding from a particular emotion, and often drain their feed of this particular emotion. The study has also revealed that, tough blood is necessary for all Daemons in order to survive, gaining strength through feeding off an emotion does not always require the blood. It can be as simple as touching the person to drain them.
The final difference between Human and Daemon is the strange abilities they gain, which often grow in strength the longer they are a Daemon. There has been no steadfast theory as to why they gain these abilities, but through interviews and research it has been found that a Daemons can hold no more than one ability to their name, though a variation of that ability can be learned through experimentation, and that they are closely linked to their human life.
In all, Daemons are still deemed a mystery in the scientific world. But we hope to learn more of them, as we do of ourselves.
